Praise is comely. Psalm 33:1-22

Praise is comely. Psalm 33:1-22
Hebrews 11:32
And what shall I more say? for the time would fail me to tell of Gedeon, and of Barak, and of Samson, and of Jephthae; of David also, and Samuel, and of the prophets: 33 Who through faith subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions, 34 Quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, waxed valiant in fight, turned to flight the armies of the aliens. 35 Women received their dead raised to life again: and others were tortured, not accepting deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection:
Before we conclude our series on ‘Exploits of faith’, it is important to look at a common factor to these heroes of faith. This common factor is praises. All those who did exploits in the bible learnt and cultivated the habit of praising God. We will mention one or two that the bible emphasised as praise singers. Lets take David as one man who love to praise God. Even though David was as small and negligible as the index finger, in his fathers house, his praise attitude placed him on a great pedestal in the heavenlies. God’s testimony about David was ‘A man after God’s own heart’. why? Because David cultivated the habit of praising God. While tending the flock alone in the bush he communicates with God through praises. That is where Saul’s servant knew him as a talented singer. And when he came face to face with the depressed king, the spirit of depression flew out of Saul through the window.
1Samuel 16:23
And it came to pass, when the evil spirit from God was upon Saul, that David took an harp, and played with his hand: so Saul was refreshed, and was well, and the evil spirit departed from him.
When he led the ark of the covenant from Gibeah, he danced so much that his wife despised him.
2Samuel 6:14
And David danced before the LORD with all his might; and David was girded with a linen ephod. 15 So David and all the house of Israel brought up the ark of the LORD with shouting, and with the sound of the trumpet. 16 And as the ark of the LORD came into the city of David, Michal Saul's daughter looked through a window, and saw king David leaping and dancing before the LORD; and she despised him in her heart…..23 Therefore Michal the daughter of Saul had no child unto the day of her death.
Bible commentators believe that David wrote more songs and psalms than any other person in the bible.
What about Jehoshaphat who formed an army of praise singers and did not only rout out the alien soldiers but destroyed them totally through praises.
2Chronicles 20:19
And the Levites, of the children of the Kohathites, and of the children of the Korhites, stood up to praise the LORD God of Israel with a loud voice on high. 20 And they rose early in the morning, and went forth into the wilderness of Tekoa: and as they went forth, Jehoshaphat stood and said, Hear me, O Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem; Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper. 21 And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed singers unto the LORD, and that should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army, and to say, Praise the LORD; for his mercy endureth for ever. 22 And when they began to sing and to praise, the LORD set ambushments against the children of Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir, which were come against Judah; and they were smitten. 23 For the children of Ammon and Moab stood up against the inhabitants of mount Seir, utterly to slay and destroy them: and when they had made an end of the inhabitants of Seir, every one helped to destroy another. 24 And when Judah came toward the watch tower in the wilderness, they looked unto the multitude, and, behold, they were dead bodies fallen to the earth, and none escaped. 25 And when Jehoshaphat and his people came to take away the spoil of them, they found among them in abundance both riches with the dead bodies, and precious jewels, which they stripped off for themselves, more than they could carry away: and they were three days in gathering of the spoil, it was so much.
What about Elisha during national crises? All he needed was his choir and instrumentalists and he authored victory for three kings over and against multitudes of soldiers through anointed praises.
2Kings 3:15
But now bring me a minstrel. And it came to pass, when the minstrel played, that the hand of the LORD came upon him. 16 And he said, Thus saith the LORD, Make this valley full of ditches. 17 For thus saith the LORD, Ye shall not see wind, neither shall ye see rain; yet that valley shall be filled with water, that ye may drink, both ye, and your cattle, and your beasts. 18 And this is but a light thing in the sight of the LORD: he will deliver the Moabites also into your hand.
Ok maybe these were Old Testament examples. Paul and Silas were locked up awaiting public execution. The bible account was that their praises made God to visit the prison.
Acts 16:25
And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them. 26 And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one's bands were loosed.
What prayer could not do praises achieved it in excess.. After this experience Paul declared that he would sing in understanding as well as in spirit.
1Corinthians 14:15
What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also.
He has learnt that praises is comely.
From all these accounts. Praise is not only comely, pleasant, beneficial, fitting, attractive, appropriate and involving, praise is an arsenal of war. Praise is medicinal, it is therapeutic. Praise is spiritual as well as physically involving. Praise is godly, awesome and intriguing. Praise is both individualistic (based on personal conviction) and collective. Praise is multilingual, multicultural and dynamic
