You will never walk alone (Luke 10:25-37)

The parable of the good Samaritan teaches us to love our neighbours as ourselves. The question need be put: how do we love ourselves? This is important since it determines how to obey Christ’s command. The man that fell victim of robbers may actually think he loves himself enough but the incident prooved a kind of lacking the principles of life that underscore love for oneself. What did he commit or omit that warrant this? He walked alone. He should have learnt a lessons from others like Elijah.

1Kings 19:3 And when he saw that, he arose, and went for his life, and came to Beersheba, which belongeth to Judah, and left his servant there. 4 But he himself went a day's journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper tree: and he requested for himself that he might die; and said, It is enough; now, O LORD, take away my life; for I am not better than my fathers.

Elijah walked alone. He fell under depression and nearly commit suicide which would have rubbished all his exploits and ministry.

John the Baptist was alone in prison and almost doubted his Lord, his only message and the prurpose of existence.

Matthew 11:2

Now when John had heard in the prison the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples, 3 And said unto him, Art thou he that should come, or do we look for another? 4 Jesus answered and said unto them, Go and shew John again those things which ye do hear and see: 5 The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them. 6 And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me.

Even when Jacob was left alone he had a serious nightmare that altered his perception of living. Only God’s mercy saw him through.

Genesis 32:23

And he took them, and sent them over the brook, and sent over that he had. 24 And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day. 25 And when he saw that he prevailed not against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh; and the hollow of Jacob's thigh was out of joint, as he wrestled with him. 26 And he said, Let me go, for the day breaketh. And he said, I will not let thee go, except thou bless me. 27 And he said unto him, What is thy name? And he said, Jacob. 28 And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed.

Let us compare all these examples to Paul’s transfer to Caesarea. The chief captain literally flooded the road with soldiers to go with Paul.

Acts 23:12 And when it was day, certain of the Jews banded together, and bound themselves under a curse, saying that they would neither eat nor drink till they had killed Paul. 13 And they were more than forty which had made this conspiracy.

Acts 23:22

So the chief captain then let the young man depart, and charged him, See thou tell no man that thou hast shewed these things to me. 23 And he called unto him two centurions, saying, Make ready two hundred soldiers to go to Caesarea, and horsemen threescore and ten, and spearmen two hundred, at the third hour of the night; 24 And provide them beasts, that they may set Paul on, and bring him safe unto Felix the governor.

Later in life Paul wrote his letter to the Hebrews and underscored the importance of fellowship.

Hebrews 10:24

And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: 25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

It is easier for the devil to corner you if you walk alone. Even our Lord Jesus Christ never walked alone. Check up his account. If he goes to have personal prayers, he returns to fellowship. When he engages in personal prayers there are always multitudes of angels around.

So who do you walk with if you don’t want to walk alone?

Walk with Jesus.

Matthew 28:18

And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. 19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

Walk with God the father.

John 14:23

Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.

Walk with the Holy Spirit.

Rev 3:20 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.

Walk with men of like mind.

Hebrews 10:25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

Walk with your bible as well. Your bible is a living word of God.

Joshua 1:8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success. 9 Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.

If you do all these, you will never walk alone and you will not fall victim of the prying devil. God bless you.
